Some additional info about the episode “Mobility issues”.
The episode was not an easy one to produce, since filming in Israeli military areas is strictly forbidden. The problem is, that these “military areas” – soldiers, checkpoints, areas surrounding the West Bank barrier etc. – are everywhere.
On the trip to Jericho we passed a few checkpoints. On the first one the Israeli soldiers saw our camera, stopped the vehicle and interrogated us for 30 minutes. The material filmed around the checkpoint had to be erased, or filmed “black”. Afterwards we heard that we can be considered lucky: Sometimes cameras are confiscated and never returned.
Personally, it doesn’t feel nice to be bullied by soldiers pointing their rifles at you. However Wasim, Joseph and John didn’t bother much since for them it is considered normal, daily life. They were only conserned about being late for their music show.
“Walla, this is your life, when you just want to go and play music for little kids”.

A place to call home
Home is missed the most when it is denied from us.
Palestinians are a nation without a country. Allthough Palestine is today widely recognized as a state, its people lack the rights that citizens of a state should have. The question of the over four million Palestinian refugees in the world remains unanswered.
Yet, millions of people in Palestine call the land their home.
As musicians, the members of Jadal try to make their home a better place in the ways they can. Victor, Wasim, and Joseph contribute to Palestinian society by teaching music. In the search of ones identity, cultural belonging is something essential. In the search of this cultural identity, art can be a valuable tool.
This video clip is the last one for the documentary – for now! Updates will be made in the future, so keep on following. Also spread the link to people who might be interested on seeing a different side of Palestine. Or to someone who is just interested to hear some nice oud. The site is not going anywhere.
